Booties and procrastinating

So, I have to tell you, I'm totally procrastinating right now. I really should be working on the Prophet Maze for the Primary Activity tomorrow. But I'm not. I'm going to write to you about my new hobby. Because that's what I'm all about - putting off until tomorrow what I should be doing today! (Okay, so procrastination should be my next 21-Day Challenge, huh?)

My new hobby isn't brand-spanking new - I started about 9 months ago. When I was pregnant with baby Sarah, my body didn't seem to like it much. I spent most of the first 6 months on the couch, wishing I was asleep, but unable to sleep because I was too nauseated, achy, heartburny (I know that's not a word, but I was!) to do anything but watch HGTV. I love watching HGTV and Food Network. Nice and wholesome: no swearing, and no funny business - just good clean fun. But I couldn't watch Food Network, because that made me sick, too. So, I watched HGTV for 6 months. And shouted curses that I didn't have the energy or money to decorate my lovely new home. That waited until I was 8 months pregnant. Then I suddenly got lots of nesting energy and decided to paint and varnish our kitchen table 1 1/2 weeks before giving birth. But that's the topic of another post.

Where was I? Oh, my new hobby. So, since I was sitting like a bump on a log all day on our living room couch, I started to feel really guilty about not being productive. So, I took up knitting. I'm really loving knitting. It's fun, and rather mindless, and I can talk and knit and watch a movie and knit, or just knit. I like that it's a rather small hobby - I can carry my knitting in my purse, (unlike scrapbooking, to which I have devoted half of our basement), and I love the feel of the yarn in my hands.

At first, I just knitted really, really simple baby sweaters. Here is a picture of the one I knitted for Sarah to come home from the hospital in. See that face she's pulling? It's because the hat the nurse made her wear doesn't fit the ensemble very well. 1 1/2 days old, and she's already a fashion diva.

Here's what I've been working on lately - baby booties. I found these delicious patterns on Etsy
I LOVE them. One of my new favorite things! It makes you want to have a baby, just so I'll knit you pair, doesn't it?

Technically I found them on Etsy, and then favorited them, where you found it the pattern via my blog, but who cares about details? ;) (I'm kidding, of course)

Those are darling though! And what else is a blog to be used for, except to procrastinate?

I think I posted this on Debbie's blog when she put those favorites up, but the Mary Jane booties have been the only thing this pregnancy that made me want to have a girl, and feel disappointed to discover I'm having a boy.

I haven't found anything to knit for this guy, but I did start crocheting a blanket while being wheeled around Disney World.

Okay, those mary jane booties are the cutest thing I have ever seen. Definitely makes me want to have another baby girl, even though I have vowed not to be pregnant again ever.

To answer your question about the screen shots: I just press the print screen button, which automatically copies the picture on the screen and then paste (ctrl + v) into Paint. It's surprisingly easy. :)

Knitting is one of the higher forms of meditation as far as I am concerned. Have you ever heard of a book from the 60's or 70's titled "The Art of Zen and Motorcycle Maintenance." (Or something close to that!) Well, I believe the true Zen is in the rhythmic clicking of knitting needles!

Amazing to me that you and Jo are now knitting and crocheting. Genetics will out, I guess.

Mary - those are TOTALLY cute shoes! I LOVE the top you knitted for your baby too.

And yes - I totally relate to the HGTV craze - I lay awake at night thinking of what I can do...then I go to IKEA and fall prey to ideas and always spend more money, etc.

You're amazing! I've done booties before and they definitely weren't that cute! And the sweater--wow! I've never dared attempt. I'm very impressed! And I'm excited to get back in touch with you, so grateful for blogs...

Yes it DOES make me want to have another! Hmm. But hopefully it'll be a girl. I don't know that Vince would let me put Mary Janes on a boy! :p
